I created Embiid signature apparel for Spring 2021 to launch with Joel Embiid’s first signature Under Armour Basketball shoe, the Embiid 1.
It was also the first time I had a chance to collaborate in-house with a great footwear designer, Reggie Wilson. Reggie recently had a opportunity
to work with Disney creating footwear for the afrofuturism series, Iwájú.
Embiid Signature Short | Knit materials with color block contruction. Encased elastic waistband with external drawcords with dipped ends.
Open hand pockets. Unique inset detail at lower legs. Branded logo at wearer’s left leg.

Lower leg inset is a stylized shape of Cameroon, Joel Embiid’s native country
Before I created the initial concept for the Embiid short for SS21, I sat down with Reggie Wilson, the designer of the Embiid 1 shoe.
Reggie walked me through the storytelling of the footwear he designed and how the elements of the shoe told the story of Embiid’s journey from Africa to America.
This level of detail gave me the insights and inspiration to find elements to connect the apparel to Embiid and also to Reggie’s footwear design. After a couple
sketch iterations, I landed on the concept below. I created a inset that was the shape of Cameroon, where Embiid was born. This shape also signifies his roots
and utimately where he found a love for the sport that led to his professional NBA career.
